This is her during a recent trip to the beach: "I just used the new sun spray last weekend at the beach. Even though it was overcast, I still knew the burning rays could get through and cause sunburn. What I loved most was that the spray did not make my skin feel all sticky like some sun protection products can. I was able to play in the sand and not have a coating of sand stuck to the sunscreen protection I had applied."
As you can tell, she loves All Terrain, but is All Terrain ready for Ireland? We will be putting it to the test! She will be packing her suitcase full of products and we are excited to see how they preform no matter what situation a traveler can get into! Check out Heather's itinerary below and get ready for more updates soon!
Heather's Trip to Ireland
We will be staying the full week at O’Connor’s Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast in the small village of Doolin, situated on the scenic west coast of Ireland. Doolin is known for its music and the nearby cliffs of Moher. Arriving early on Monday at Shannon, we will pick up our car (an Opel Zafhira or similar car), pile in our luggage (hopefully without tying it on top of the car!) and head off on the wrong side of the road northwest toward Doolin.
Monday, Day 1: Pick up car and traverse our way slowly to our B&B. We are women so stopping along the way will be a necessity if not a priority. No more rushing to get to our destination, we are in control of the wheel. It is Ireland after all, which means taking time to smell the heather.
Unpack and then its investigating the farm and the local area of Doolin, a bit of shopping in the village and lunch or dinner, and an evening evaluating the 3 pubs for the best pint of ale.
Tuesday, Day 2: Weather permitting we will be off today after a massive breakfast to hike to the Cliffs of Moher, a few miles down the coast. There are trails leading from Doolin and it should be a great time. Once back we will continue to check out the area, like Lisdoonvarna, known for its match making festival during September. Unfortunately our single sisters will be gone before the party begins, no pressing our luck in a Irish wedding dance.
Wednesday, Day 3: Road trip today to head out further into Country Clare. We plan on hiking in the area called the “Burren”, once home of the O’Briens who owned at one point 8 of the 12 local castles in the area. The Burren is a geological landscape of moon rock, most of the topsoil in this region has long been swept away leaving miles of seemingly barren rock to investigate. There are numerous ancient ring forts in the area, the famous St Brigid’s well, as well as lots of old ruins and churches to check out.
Thursday, Day 4: Again, weather permitting, we will head South over the river Shannon to the Dingle Peninsula to test our driving and hiking skills in Connor’s Pass. We might try out some basic Irish on the locals, and shop the small villages along the coast. There are many pull off areas to view the strand and the local wildlife including the passing blue and red spotted sheep left free to graze!
Friday, Day 5: Now that we’ve got the hang of driving on the left side of the road down passably well, we plan on heading North to Galway County, and the university city of Galway itself. The City Centre offers lots of shopping and restaurants and will be our day to pick up supplies and souvenirs for the friends at home. Once done with the city life, we might head north further into Connemara to check out more sheep and hiking.
Saturday, Day 6: We will be braving the churning waters of Galway Bay to head out to the Aran Islands, taking the local ferry for a day of hiking Inis Mor, the largest of the group of islands. A wild place, it’s still populated with hardy fisherman, Irish is still spoken everyday and the waves crash onto shore as they have forever.
Sunday, Day 7: It’s packing and heading out early back to Shannon to head home. Flight leaves early and then it’s a night in Chicago for some of us before driving the final leg of our journey to Michigan, while the other two head south to Florida, and west to the wild places of Washington.
What a great review of All Terrain from a mom who understands the value of natural products.
